  • The Lake of the Ozarks Council of Local Governments is undergoing a leadership change. At a recent meeting of LOCOLG, Chuck Chorpening stepped down as chair of the board of directors.
He serves on the board by appointment of the Morgan County Commission. He is one of 21 board members.
Chorpening later said he is looking to slow down as he gets older.
Camden County Presiding Commissioner Kris Franken has been asked to take over as chair. He said the board would vote on new leadership at its Sept. 16 meeting, which is also the board's annual meeting.
Earlier in the year, the LOCOLG named a new executive director.
Linda Conner had been employed by the council for more than a year and served as the interim executive director beginning from August 2012-January 2013, when she was hired as the permanent director.
LOCOLG serves as the regional planning commission for the counties of Camden, Laclede, Miller and Morgan. Working with federal and state agencies, the council provides coordination and technical support to county and city governments including planning, grant writing and administrative assistance on a variety of issues, such as economic development and infrastructure projects.
Projects currently being worked on by LOCOLG staff include hazard mitigation plans for Laclede, Miller and Morgan counties, sewer expansion in Camden County, regional transportation planning priority list, a brownfield project at the Carousel building in Eldon, regional broadband expansion, small business management and financing opportunities, mapping regional critical facilities, disaster planning and workshops on franchises, women-owned businesses and entrepreneurship.
In addition to Conner, the LOCOLG now employs Tammy Darnall as regional planner, Pam Gilbert as administrative assistant and Margie Adams as fiscal officer.
