A 1991 kidnapping and sexual assault case originating in Santa Fe, N.M. culminated with the arrest of a Roach man at his home on Sept. 9. The Camden County Sheriff's Office working with the United States Marshals Service arrested David Anthony Garcia.
In 2002, Garcia, then 36, was arrested for domestic assault by Camden County deputies. Deputies collected a sample of his DNA and sent it the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab where it was entered into a national database. In late August 2013, the Santa Fe Police Department contacted the Camden County Sheriff's Office and requested assistance in apprehending Garcia, whose DNA profile matched that of the suspect in the 1991 kidnapping and sexual assault case. Garcia is currently being held in the Camden County Adult Detention Facility awaiting extradition to New Mexico. The Southern Missouri Fugitive Task Force consists of law enforcement officers from multiple Missouri agencies who have been sworn in as Special Deputy United States Marshals with the specific goal of apprehending fugitives from justice.
