  • Letter to the editor: Outdoors columnist fanning the fires of hate

  • My wife and I moved to the Osage Beach area in Sept. 2012. We have enjoyed reading the "Focus" [Lake Sun’s weekly newspaper in the Osage Beach/Lake Ozark area] until we recently read the Wed., Sept. 4 edition and the above-referenced article by Larry Dablemont [also published in the Aug. 30 Lake Sun] .

My wife and I moved to the Osage Beach area in Sept.
I was appalled after reading this hateful article from the second column (starting with "now is the time to get serious...") all the way through to the end of column six. Your entire editorial board should be utterly ashamed of giving an "outdoors" writer like Dablemont the license to become the new "political satirist" of your paper.
Dablemont should surely get an award for being the dumbest, most racist, most absurd columnist of the "Focus." Only an idiot would start a column about bass fishing and devote two thirds of his pompous article to his admitted hatred of Muslims.
To allow someone to write the following in an article regarding bass fishing is ludicrous: "I saw two young men with turbans around their heads in a Joplin truck stop. They looked just like Osama Bin Laden's bearded soldiers... It was obvious to me they were at the very least trying to intimidate and scare people."
Wow, talk about fanning the fumes of hatred and bigotry. This kind of editorializing should be banned by all newspapers!
The next piece of Dablemont’s diatribe is really contradictory and puzzling, to say the least. He writes “But I know nothing of politics..., and I knew that if those foreign terrorists get the hang of it, they can destroy much of our wildest country, and thousands of homes in heavily populated western states... They don't need bombs, only a cigarette lighter. I am not sure it isn't already happening."
Wow, this guy (Dablemont) is not a journalist — he is a scary, scary bigot. And his spiteful, bombastic remarks should not be tolerated.
Shame on your newspaper. We will continue to scan the advertisements, but will never ever read another article in the " Focus." I sincerely believe that your editorial board owes an apology to the entire Lake of the Ozarks Community.
