Karl Oliver Barjenbruch, 30 of Mexico, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013 in Sint Maarten.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Terry Kukuk officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
Karl was born Aug. 24, 1983 in Columbia, the son of Olin Carl and Peggy (Wanner) Barjenbruch.
He graduated from Columbia College with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Karl had just completed his second year at the American University of the Caribbean Medical School, passing his comprehensives in preparation for part one of the boards. He received the highest honor in leadership by one of his medical school professors. Karl was starting his clinicals in the United States and Great Britain in December.
Mr. Barjenbruch was active in tutoring other students, surfing, reading, weightlifting and running. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his mother, Dr. Peggy Barjenbruch of Mexico; his sister, Jesse Barjenbruch of Columbia; his son, Avin of Mexico; maternal grandmother, Fern Wanner of St. Louis; uncle and aunt who were also his godparents, Thomas and Karen Wanner of Little Rock, Arkansas; his cousins, Beth (Scott) Van Horn of St. Louis, Steven Wanner of Little Rock, Ark., Jill (Jonathan) Burch of St. Louis, Jeff (Tammy) Wanner of St. Louis and Julie (Nick) Moyneur of Florida; great-aunts: Louise Barjenbruch of Nebraska, Nelle Ruck of St. Louis, Hazel Voss of St. Charles; great-uncles, Lawrence (Julie) Fuchs of Bellwood, Nebraska, John (Jewel) Wanner of St Louis, Joseph (Sharon) Wanner of Chicago and Edward (Jeanne) Wanner of St. Louis; great-aunts; great uncles; and many cousins.
Karl was preceded in death by his father, Olin Barjenbruch; maternal grandfather, Thomas Wanner; paternal grandparents, Oliver and Esther Barjenbruch; and an uncle, Forest Wanner.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Missouri State Medical Association, Kingdom Christian Academy or the YMCA. All donations may be made in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
