On Sunday, Sept. 8, eight members of the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District completed a 110 story memorial stair climb in honor of the victims of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.
The climb was held in the Crown Towers building in Kansas City, Mo.
Each of the firefighters made the climb wearing their protective equipment, and carrying an ID card bearing the name of one of the 343 New York City firefighters killed in the line of Duty when the World Trade Center towers collapsed.
“Never Forget is nothing more than a catchy little slogan unless you are willing to do something to honor the memory” says Chief Dennis Reilly.
“Some of our members felt very strongly about doing something to honor the sacrifice and remember all the victims. Our members did a very noble thing by participating in the climb and we are all very thankful for having this opportunity” Reilly said.
The Stair Climb Team is already starting to make plans for next year’s climb and the SBFPD plans on making this an annual occurrence.
