The annual fundraising project has been a group effort for many years. This year the club produced a rendering of Noah’s Ark complete with 15 sets of animals, Noah and Mrs. Noah.
Lake of the Ozarks Woodcarvers is an active group of carvers in south central Missouri. Started in the early 1980s, the carving club is currently 80 members strong. Periodic entry level carving classes are offered by the club through the local Vocational-Technical Center along with presentations to adult groups and secondary school classes. Inexpensive class fees and the availability of beginner carving tools results in enthusiastic student carvers and a steady stream of new club members. Monthly meetings are a combination of carving, business, planning, camaraderie and the best refreshments you’ve ever sunk a fork into.
The annual fundraising project has been a group effort for many years. This year the club produced a rendering of Noah’s Ark complete with 15 sets of animals, Noah and Mrs. Noah. Richard Wallace, President, constructed the Ark complete with loading ramp. Thirty-two club members contributed to the collection of animals for two complete sets.
The first Ark with Noah, wife and animals was entered in the Ozarks Empire Fair in Springfield and received a blue ribbon (1st place) and Champion ribbon.
For more information on this fund raiser, contact Doug Bibles at 573-873-2069. The prize will be awarded on Dec. 16, 2013 and you need not be present to win! The second set will be awarded to one of the 32 members participating in the project. This part of the project seems to keep the club enthusiastic and continually striving for the best possible results.
The Lake of the Ozarks Woodcarving Club meets the third Monday each month at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church, Highway 54 West in Camdenton. Those interested in woodcarving are always welcome. Bring an example of your carving for the “Show & Tell” and plan to participate in good fellowship and great snacks after the meeting.
If you have never carved but might be interested, come and spend a couple of hours with the nicest group of people you will ever meet.
