Officers in Ohio have arrested Brian Adkison, the man who led lake area officers on a massive manhunt in June.

Officers have arrested the man who led lake area officers on a massive manhunt in June and later escaped from jail hundreds of miles from where he committed violent crimes.

Police in Westlake, Ohio, arrested Brian J. Adkison, 23, shortly before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Adkison has been on the run since breaking out of the Caldwell County jail Aug. 11. He was being held on kidnapping, domestic assault and protection order violations out of Caldwell County for the abduction and assault of a University of Missouri medical student.

No one had seen Adkison since fleeing the jail in white boxer shorts until the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 3, when police in the Cleveland suburb approached Adkison, who was sleeping in a pickup truck at a hotel. As police approached him, he took off, leading authorities on a high speed chase. The truck was stolen from West Virginia and licensed in Pennsylvania.

According to Westlake Police Captain Guy Turner, a resident who saw a photo of Adkison spotted the fugitive Wednesday morning riding a bicycle through the town and called police. Officers from six jurisdictions chased Adkison as he attempted to flee police through the woods on the bicycle.

Adkison later attempted to enter a nursing home, prompting employees to call the police. Turner said the wanted man did not want to surrender his hands and a brief struggle ensued before Adkison was taken into custody.

Turner described Adkison's behavior in an Ohio jail to be "difficult, to put it nicely."

He also said his officers were happy to bring some peace to a situation that has had entire communities on edge in Missouri.

Before breaking out of the Caldwell County jail, Adkison led police on a weeklong manhunt throughout the lake area the week of June 17. He was arrested in Morgan County on June 21 after breaking into area homes, stealing a vehicle and a vessel and causing dozens of officers to respond to the lake area from across mid-Missouri.

Adkison has additional charges in Caldwell County for escape while under arrest for a felony and damage to jail property. He is facing burglary charges in Morgan County. He has a lengthy criminal record spanning throughout most of central/north central Missouri.
