  • Bikes are currently being collected and made Christmas present ready for lake area children. 2nd Chance Bikes takes used bicycles and makes them new again. Linn Creek Police Department along with a local Kiwanis club, Faithbridge Church, Big Brother Big Sister and Advantage Metals Recycling have come together for this cause.
"It just opens horizons for children," Linn Creek Police Chief Trevor Dowdney said.
For Dowdney, 2nd Chance Bikes is about opening up a new world to local children.
"There is one thing about playing in your yard and another about playing down the street," he said. "It also gets them away from the computer, away from the television and gets them active."
Residents with bikes in good condition can donate to this cause by dropping off bikes at Linn Creek City Hall, Advantage Metals Recycling on A Road and Faithbridge Church Bike Workshop located at 910 Highway 42. Organizers are looking for 20 inch bikes. When donated, the bicycles are either refurbished to usable condition or if beyond repair, they are crushed and the money generated from the weight of the metal is used to buy other bicycles, helmets or spare parts.
For more information or to find out how to help contact Dowdney by calling 573-346-6200 or Wayne Marlow by calling 573-434-4043.
