You say it's your birthday. Well it's my birthday too. You say it's your birthday. We're gonna have a good time. I'm glad it's your birthday. Happy birthday to you. This touching birthday wish goes out to the Turner Hall River Rats for the Arts. They're ten years old. Founded in 2003, the River Rats is a not-for-profit cultural arts organization. The River Rats have always been a generous group of folks, offering opportunities for all ages and levels of talent to express themselves creatively. How are The Rats going to celebrate this milestone anniversary, you ask. Well, as only The Rats can do, with a party offering fun, food, art and music, and fittingly, at their beloved venue, Turner Hall on Saturday, September 7.
Vine Street between Main and 6th will be blocked off, so much of the fun will take place outside. The celebration starts at 4:00 with activities and art projects for kids. I understand bubbles, chalk and paint are all part of this hour long fun fest. From 5:00 - 6:00 outdoor activities continue and you'll want to grab some dinner from several non-profit organizations that will be offering food and drink.
The entertainment moves inside Turner Hall from 6:00 - 8:00 with a Variety Show. This will truly be a trip down memory lane, with songs from Love Notes, your favorite Three-Minute Plays, and just for laughs, Improv. You're sure to see one of your favorite performers, or enjoy a song from one of the past River Rats performances.
At 8:00 we'll move back outside where you can dance the night away to the sounds of the Bel Airs. The Bel Airs play a danceable mix with an authentic but eclectic bluesy-country-soul-and-rock-n-roll sound influenced by the likes of Wilson Picket, Slim Harpo, Howlin' Wolf and Johnny Cash. At 11:00 or so, go home!
I forgot to mention two very important things. #1 There will be birthday cake! #2 It's FREE!! Thanks to the Turner Hall River Rats for inviting us to their birthday party and giving us opportunities to perform or enjoy the talents of Boonville artists. Play Local, Shop Local, CELEBRATE Local and Go Boonville!
