Lake Regional Health System is pleased to welcome Karen Hayes, Ph.D., APRN to Lake Regional Medical Group. Hayes will care for patients at Lake Regional Urgent Care and Lake Regional Clinic – Lake Ozark.
Hayes has nearly 40 years of health care experience. She received a bachelor’s degree in science of nursing from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree of science in nursing from the University of Kansas and a doctorate degree from the University of Missouri.
Hayes served in the military for 20 years, retiring from the Army Nurse Corps Reserve as a lieutenant colonel in 1996. She worked as a nurse practitioner in emergency departments in Iola Kan., and Wichita, Kan., before joining the Ashley Clinic in Chanute, Kan. She has provided primary care at Ashley Clinic and their rural outreach clinic in Yates Center, Kan. She also has taught at Wichita State University, Missouri Western State College, Saint Louis University School of Nursing and the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She said these experiences have shaped her skills for her new role at Lake Regional.
“My education and experience is a great fit for this job,” Hayes says. “I’m certified both in family practice and acute care, and I have several years of experience in both.”
