  • Columbia College-Lake of the Ozarks student Teanna Bryan of Preston, Mo., recently received the L.J. Hart & Company Scholarship sponsored by the Missouri Association of Rural Education (MARE).
Bryan was selected from 29 quality applicants and 10 finalists for the $1,000 award, according to Dr. Ray V. Patrick, executive director of the Missouri Association of Rural Education. Finalists were honored at the annual MARE summer board meeting at Jefferson City, Mo. Bryan, who is a Senior is working on a degree in General Studies with a goal of obtaining her Elementary Teaching Certification.
“Growing up, I was surrounded by honest, hard-working people who deeply influenced me” Bryan said. “Another set of people I was surrounded with were my teachers. They were great role models and at a very young age, I knew I wanted to grow up and become ‘one of those people.’  My teachers always encouraged me to be the absolute best I could be. It is my goal to help students find their internal motivator, just as the people in my life helped me find mine.”
Each year, the MARE requests and receives applications for the $1,000 Scholarships. To qualify for this award, applicants must be a junior or senior-level college student majoring in education, successfully completed 60 credit hours and have an interest in teaching in rural Missouri.
