George Carmack discovers gold in Rabbit Creek
George Carmack and two Yukon-area Indians discovered gold in Rabbit Creek in the Yukon on August 16, 1896. The creek was renamed Bonanza Creek. Carmack and most of the first stakeholders became "Klondike Kings," which was another way of saying "rich."
