Ahoy Mates! One of the must-attend events of Lake of the Ozarks Shootout week will hit Cannonball Beach at Captain Ron's from 5-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19.
The Great Shootout Treasure Hunt promises fun for the whole family as buccaneers scour the sand for pirate chests filled with treasure. One gold chest will hold the key to the grand prize, a brand new Hammerhead Off-Road Go Cart from Surdyke Yamaha.
"It is really fun to see people of all ages, young and old, out there digging in the sand. It is really very exciting!" said treasure hunt organizer Tricia Morris. "Many of the contestants love it so much they come back every year."
The excitement will begin with dinner and drinks at 5 p.m. and the treasure hunt will start at 6 p.m. Each treasure hunter may find up to three chests hidden in the beach sand. Some people bring their own shovel. There are 10 gold chests with keys inside, and one of the keys will start the Hammerhead Off-Road Go Cart. Silver chests have prizes $50 and up. Last year some of the silver chest prizes included floatable water toys, video games and digital cameras. Brown chests are also hidden throughout the sand with prizes ranging from $2 to $40. Each person is allowed one gold and one silver chest per person and up to three brown chests. There will also be other prizes awarded for participation. The presentation of the treasure hunt awards and prizes will begin at 7 p.m.
Proceeds from the treasure hunt will benefit local community projects of the Laurie Sunrise Beach Rotary Club. Tickets are $25 and include dinner, one drink, and the opportunity to participate in the Great Shootout Treasure Hunt. They may be purchased from any Rotary Club member, Captain Ron's Bar and Grill, the Westlake Aquatic Center in Laurie, or at the door Monday evening. Tickets will be available at the door.
