  • The Camden County Commission has made a commendable move, voting unanimously to put an exceptionally well-qualified man at the helm of the county’s emergency management operation.
Former Camden County sheriff John Page has been named the new emergency chief, a post for which he is uniquely qualified. A former firefighter, policeman and sheriff, Page knows emergency response as well as anyone can.
Further, he has the steady hand of a former cop and the concern of a longtime community leader. He is indeed perfect for his new job.
We live in a world of chemical spills and natural disasters. One need only refer to recent flooding as an example of the issues that arise every day. The tax dollars we pay need to be effectively turned into the help we expect when something goes amiss. The umbrella emergency management program allows one strong leader to assess and respond to all types of situations in an organized and efficient way.
John Page is an exceptionally talented leader as was shown during his decade and more as sheriff. He has the tenacity to get the job done right. Just one example of that tenacity is worth mentioning. He solved a five-year-old murder that occurred before his time as sheriff through good police work and an unwillingness to let anything go undone.
Congratulations to emergency management director Page and congratulations to the Camden County Commission for this excellent selection.
