The community of Eldon now has a new post secondary education training to offer area residents. The Eldon School District has partnered with State Fair Community College to offer a new degree program. State Fair will now utilize the Eldon Career Center for an additional lake area campus.
It all began about eight years ago according to Eldon Superintendent Matt Davis. The school district began working with Johnson Controls and educating students and workers through welding classes. Eight years later, the partnership has expanded to include State Fair. Beginning this school year, an Industrial Technology Degree can be completed at the new State Fair Eldon campus.
"We think this is just a great thing for community and our students," Davis said. "A trained educated workforce helps with economic development."
A day after the official ribbon cutting at the new State Fair facility in the Eldon Career Center, Davis said that new degree programs are also in the works. A practical nursing program will be offered in January 2014 while a registered nursing program will be offered in January 2015.
Davis added that most of the classes will be offered at night and at a minimal cost. This opportunity allows individuals who never earned a post secondary degree, to get an affordable education close to home. Students who have recently graduated can also take advantage of the opportunity and not have to travel far if their degree is offered at the Eldon campus.
The lake area is home to another State Fair campus in Osage Beach.
Classes at the Eldon campus are set to begin on August 19.
