Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie celebrated a significant community service achievement Saturday, July 27. The local Elks club was the recipient of the national civic organization's "All American Lodge Award" for 2012-13.
The Grand Lodge of the Elks only awards six "All American Lodge Awards" across the nation each year.
Lodges are selected by the level of benevolent activity involvement. On average, two points are awarded for each activity. Out of a maximum of 800 points, Lodge 2705 attained 715 points.
This required many volunteer hours of the membership and meticulous record keeping.
Some of the activities include but are not limited to Youth Day, Drug Awareness, Scholarship, Christmas Program, Veterans, Boy Scouts and a variety of other community-related projects.
Lodges are ranked by membership, placing Elks Lodge 2705 in the Division 4 Category, which is lodges with membership from 500 to 1,000.
On July 27, current President Dean Davidson presented Past President Roger Dzogola with the "All American Lodge Award."
Winning this award is "like winning the Superbowl of Elkdom," said Davidson.
This is a prestigious award and reflects the sharing attitude of the membership: "Elks Care, Elks Share." Both Davidson and Dzogola thanked the membership for their dedication and contributions to making this recognition possible.
Outstanding community service is not new for Lodge 2705. The local Elks chapter has also received the prestigious Elks award in 1993-94, 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2006-07.
At the celebration Saturday evening, Lodge 2705 also presented for the first time an award for Lifetime Achievement.
Dale Evans, a charter member of the lodge, received this award from John Clifford in recognition for 27 years of membership. During this period, Dale has held every official position in the Lodge. He has served as President twice and has been the Secretary for the past seven years.
