The Bank of Versailles is proud to announce a partnership with Co-Mo Electric Cooperative and The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri to provide food donations for the Buddy Pack program for the 2013 school year.
On July 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., employees of both the bank and the co-op will be accepting donations at the new Woods Supermarket in Sunrise Beach, G2M in Laurie, and at Walmart and Save-A-Lot in Versailles. Donations can be made in food, cash or check payable to The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. All donations made through this partnership will be directly used in the local schools in the surrounding areas.
“We are thrilled to be apart of such an amazing program,” said Danielle Kincaid, Assistant Vice President of the Bank of Versailles. “The Buddy Pack program provides healthy meals to nearly 800 children in the Lake Area every week who might otherwise do without during the school year.”
The need has increased throughout the years within the school districts for assistance with programs such as the Buddy Pack program. The Buddy Pack program serves children who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches, and schools recommend children who need the program the most .At the beginning of the 2012 school year, the cost of a Buddy Pack was about $100 to feed 1 child throughout the school year and has now risen to $180.
Some recommended foods to donate for the packs include: peanut butter or cheese crackers, pop-top fruit cups, granola bars, pop-top soup cans, dried fruits and 100% fruit juice. A complete list of preferred items will be available at each food drive location, and monetary donations are gladly accepted.
