  • Hundreds of children in the lake area have benefited from the Camden County Child Advocacy Council's back to school fair each year. School is right around the corner and that means it is time to start gathering school supplies.
Child Advocacy will be collecting supplies from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Orschelns Farm and Home in Camdenton on Friday, July 26. Notebooks, pencils, crayons, folders and other supplies will be accepted at that time. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Camdenton R-III, Stoutland and Macks Creek all benefit from the donations. The council also provides $10 Wal-Mart vouchers to purchase new socks and/or underwear for each child. Last year alone, about 500 vouchers were given out. This year, Child Advocacy anticipates giving at least 600 vouchers to students in need.
A few lake area businesses have partnered with Child Advocacy Council in order to serve children in need. Big Surf Waterpark is giving customers $10 off a full day's admission if they donate five different supplies. The offer is good for Monday through Thursday only. Putt n' Stuff in Osage Beach is also giving customers $2 off adult admission and $1 off a child's admission when donating five different school supply items.
Monetary donations can be sent to CCCAC- Back to School Fair, P.O. Box 1002 Camdenton, Mo. 65020.
All supplies collected will be distributed at the Back to School Fair on Thursday, Aug. 8. The fair will be held in the commons area of the Camdenton Middle School from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. for families in need. Supplies are handed out on a first come first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by their parent or guardian who must show proof of residency in Camden County by bringing their ID or current utility bill.
Climax Springs students can get supplies at their own Back to School fair scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
