  • My view: Things I find more interesting than the royal baby

  • Camera crews, reporters and paprazzi showed up in droves over the last 48 hours to the hospital where Kate Middleton, the duchess of Cambridge, is expected to deliver her first baby, son or daughter of Prince William. The baby would oust William's brother Harry as the third in line to the throne, behind Prince Charles and Prince William.

While William and Kate seem to have boosted the image of the British royal family since their wedding April 29, 2011. I must admit, I think their lovely relationship is admirable and the poise and coolness the couple displayed in the face of incessant public scrutiny should be emulated down to the common citizen.
But, honestly, it's time to give them a break. The birth of a child is a remarkable event, and camera presence will ruin the event. I hope the baby is born healthy and that Kate has little trouble. I wish the family nothing but blessings.
But I don't really care for all the attention devoted to the subject.
Barring some freak visit to the Midwest, I will never meet the royal couple nor their offspring. There are things happening in this community I find much more interesting. For example...
    1. Why everyone is terrified of bears all of a sudden.
Earlier in the year, the Lake Sun published a story of a bear sighting. The story also explained the growing range of the black bear.
    Everyone got into a tizzy.
Should we lock the dogs up at night?
Can my kids play in the street in the daytime?
    Can bears turn door knobs?
Let's give it a rest, shall we. Bears are fine, their just like any other animal in Mother Nature. Leave it alone, and it will leave you alone.
    2. Why there seems to be such childish behavior at the Camden County Courthouse.
In reviewing audio recordings for story a few weeks ago, the county commissioners openly fought like children over this and that.
The people of Camden County should expect more professional behavior from the people they elected.
The debacle over moving planning and zoning files from one office to another shouldn't be that big of a deal. Escalating that into a verbal altercation doesn't make sense, nor does it any good for the citizens of the county.
    3. Why someone who lives thousands of miles away is dictating a lawsuit against Morgan County
The details are still emerging about the latest intrusion by the ACLU into the lake area. The lawsuit, filed against the jail on behalf of an Oregon woman, says the constitutional rights of prisoners are being violated. She says the jail doesn't notify the sender if mail is rejected.
Page 2 of 2 - I'm sorry, but what does it matter what an Oregon woman says.
In the end, it should be an easy fix for the county — just tell someone when you reject their mail.
The most interesting part of the royal baby phenomenon is that for every story I've read on the topic (which is very few), most of the comments say the same thing: the poster doesn't care.
If the poster doesn't care, why bother wasting the time to type it up.
No one cares if you don't care.
