  • A father and son from Sugarland, Texas were injured in a boat explosion on the Lake of the Ozarks Wednesday evening.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Incident Report, the explosion and resulting fire occurred around 5:30 p.m. July 17 at Bikini Pier at the 11 mile marker in Davey Hollow Cove as Allen Wienecke, 52, attempted to restart a 1999 Starcraft after refueling.
In addition to the Water Patrol Division of the Highway Patrol, the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District fire boat responded and extinguished the blaze. Sunrise Beach firefighters arriving by land helped protect the nearby the condominiums from the flames of the boat which was drifting toward land. After the fire was extinguished, the boat was towed away by Lake Tow in Lake Ozark.
Allen Wienecke suffered minor injuries in the incident and was treated at the scene. His son, Jonathan Wienecke, 20, also of Sugarland, Texas received moderate injuries. He was taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach for treatment.
