  • Bernard “Bernie” Lee Steck, age 86, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born September 6, 1926 in Alton, Illinois, a son of the late Leo and Florence Purdon Steck.
    On March 19, 1980, in Alton, Illinois, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Barbara Taylor Steck.
    Bernie was a United States Army veteran and member of the West Lake Christian Church in Laurie. He loved living at the lake after retiring as a supervisor from Owens-Illinois Glass Company. While on the lake, he loved to fish and enjoyed the outdoors.
    In addition to his wife, Barbara, Bernie is survived by his son, Bernard Steck II and wife, Randi of Jonesboro, Illinois; his daughter, Sheryl Bryant and husband, William of Jonesboro, Illinois; one sister, June Beasley of Maryville, Illinois; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
    A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to S.T.A.F.F. Animal Rescue, P.O.
