A rescue attempt for a man who fell overboard Saturday morning turned into a body recovery. Johnny Ellis, 35, of St. James, Mo. was walking to the back of a 2003 Champion boat along the 2.5 mile marker of the Niangua Arm of the Lake of the Ozarks when he fell overboard.
Mid County Fire Protection District, Northwest Fire Protection District and Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Patrol Division personnel responded to the scene. Ellis was pronounced dead shortly before noon by Southwest Forensics coroner Dee Ballard. Ellis' body was taken to Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Camdenton. Although several other drowning have occurred in 2013, this is Troop F's first boating fatality of 2013.
