  • The Second Annual Red Dirt LakeFestwill bring the sounds of "red dirt music" back to the Lake of the Ozarks July 18-20 at Runaway II Resort in Climax Springs.
The festival will feature nine bands including Midnight River Choir, Chad Sullins and the Last Call Coalition, Cole Porter Band, The Rankin Twins, JC Hopkins Band, The Dirty Bourbon Band, Kimberly Kelly, Jesse Harris and The Gypsy Sparrows, and Schuyler Prenger & The Dirt Road Junkies.
The Midnight River Choir from New Braunfels, Texas will be performing as well.
"Red dirt music" is named for the color of the soil in Oklahoma and northern Texas, where it grew from country music roots, and can best be described as a melding of country, folk, bluegrass, blues and rock and roll.
"You won't hear most of it on the radio," says festival organizer Matt Church, noting these are independent artists.  But the sound appeals to people of all ages who are "everyday, average Joes."
Only about 300 tickets are sold for the LakeFest and the venue is small, allowing ticketholders to have greater access to the musicians.  "It is a very intimate experience between the fans and the musicians," Church said.
Nightly concerts will be held on the main stage, located poolside at the resort, and there will be music on the dock every afternoon, as well.
Tickets are $95 per person and are available by contacting reddirtrogue@yahoo.com.  Accommodations for the festival include cabins, motel rooms, and RV sites, as well as a 40-slip marina, restaurant/lounge, swimming pool and beach.
