The Fourth Annual Pat Noyes Eagles Basketball Camp, hosted by the Lake West Christian Academy in Sunrise Beach, is scheduled Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades third through twelfth grade. Third through sixth grade will meet 10 a.m. to noon and grades seventh through twelfth grade will meet 1 to 3 p.m.
The camp was started three years ago to teach players grades three through 12 basic fundamental basketball skills and it has grown in popularity from 15 players in 2010, to 66 players in 2012.
Guest coaches include; Andre Williams, Tim Swartzendruber, Cy Rolfs and Tracy Braden.
Andrea Williams is a former Oklahoma State University Cowboy basketball star, a member of the 2000 Elite Eight NCAA team, and the Oklahoma State All-Decade Team from 2000 to 2010.
Tim Swartzendruber is the McPherson College Men’s Basketball Coach. The McPherson College team was the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 KCAC Conference Championship winners and the team qualified for four consecutive NAIA Division II National Championship Tournaments. They also finished in the final four in the 2011-2012 season. In 2011-2012 Swartzendruber was named the KCAC Coach of the Year and the Kansas Basketball Association Coach of the Year.
Cy Rolfs has been the McPherson College Women’s Basketball Head Coach for two seasons. He qualified the team for the KCAC basketball tournament for the first time in seven years during the 2012-2013 season.
Tracy Braden is the Westminster College Women’s Basketball Coach. Her team was the2011- 2012 and 2012-2013 Conference Champions and 2011-2012/2012-2013 NCAA Division 3 Qualifiers. Braden is also a three time STLAC Coach of the Year.
“This is a super camp that gives kids that may not know much about the game, an opportunity to experience and be introduced to the game without the fear of asking, ‘Am I good enough?’ said Braden. She is real big on teaching kids the fundamentals. Braden continued “We are doing our youth such a disservice by giving them the opportunity to play youth sports where the entire focus is win, win, win. They are not being taught the fundamentals on how to just play the game of basketball. I love that about this camp. Once they have the foundation, there is no limit to where these kids can go.”
The cost for the camp is $50 per student/player. Students will receive a t-shirt and five days of excellent instruction. A family discount for every full price enrollment will give the second player a fifty-percent discount.
