  • The Brostock-Lake Race-Cannonball weekend was huge for the lake.
Events rolled down the lake like a wave — Lake Race, Canine Cannonball and Brostock drew big crowds and created a real sense of excitement. Each was an important draw for locals and visitors alike.
It is unknown how many dog-jumping enthusiasts are boat-race fans or if many excited wakeboard aficionados are also interested in the athletic abilities of man’s best friend or vice versa but we wonder if having all these great events on the same weekend is perfect scheduling.
While each is a private entity and not subject to any central organizational structure, it seems that scheduling three hugely popular events on the same weekend may be less desirable than stretching out the fun.
Perhaps there is some place for a coordination of events that would spread the joy across two or even three weekends.
That might be good for the private sponsors of the events and for the lake economy generally.
While it certainly develops a sense of real excitement to have so much going on at once, it is impossible to be two places at the same time and there then is left kind of a post-holiday lull that might be better filled by different scheduling.
With a year to go before the next round of fun, we believe it may be worth thinking about stretching these fine events across the calendar.
