The hunt for Brian Adkison heated up again last night as police spotted the man around the Morgan County side of the 66-67 mile marker of the Lake of the Ozarks around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. As of 9 a.m. Thursday, he had still not been caught.
After a quiet Tuesday and Wednesday, the hunt for a wanted kidnapper heated up again as police spotted the man around the Morgan County side of the 66-67 mile marker of the Lake of the Ozarks around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. As of a 4:30 p.m. Thursday press conference, Brian Adkison, 23, had still not been caught.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol called a press conference at the Morgan County Sheriff's Office Thursday afternoon to go over the case. Sergeant Paul Reinsch said that as of Thursday afternoon, Adkison was still at large. Police believe Adkison stole a boat Wednesday and abandoned it in Little Buffalo Cove, where a witness saw him fleeing into the woods.
After analyzing evidence on the boat, officers have confirmed it was Adkison that stole the boat. A SWAT team from Cole County joined 50 other officers as they conducted a residence-by-residence search of homes in the Clearwater Road area. Additionally, officers set up road blocks and brought in K-9 units to search in wooded areas. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has provided intelligence assistance in this case.
At the Thursday press conference, Reinsch urged Adkison to turn himself in.
Adkison, of Columbia, is wanted for his involvement in a kidnapping in Caldwell County on June 15 and a sexual assault and forcible rape in Boone County.
The chase started again after Camden County deputies responded to an alarm at a residence in the Coffman Bend area of western Camden County, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Reinsch. Officers noticed forced entry into the house had been attempted and shortly after heard a boat leaving a nearby dock. The boat in question was the one ditched in Little Buffalo Cove.
Adkison evaded police Monday after being spotted by Sunrise Beach police in a stolen truck in the Route TT area.
Adkison abandoned the truck and fled by foot. He then left the Sunrise Beach area on the lake apparently in a stolen personal water craft.
He was later spotted in the Ivy Bend area of Morgan County. Adkison was not found in a sweep of the woods in the area and a house to house search Monday night.
If anyone sees the subject, they should call the Morgan County Sheriff's Department at 573-378-5481.
