The Missouri Hospital Association has presented a 2013 Excellence in Governance award to Lake Regional Health System Board Member Robert Schwendinger in recognition of his contributions to the health care community.
Schwendinger was one of six board members statewide honored during a June 13 presentation at MHA’s annual Leadership Forum at The Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark. He has been a member of the Lake Regional board for 37 years, and has served as board secretary throughout his tenure. In addition, Schwendinger has served on the Medical Staff Development and Joint Conference Committees since 1976.
“Lake Regional has benefited from the sound judgment and integrity of Bob Schwendinger,” said Michael E. Henze, chief executive officer. “His leadership has been essential to the success of our organization and its vision for the future.”
As one of the seven original members of Lake Regional Health System’s Board of Directors, Schwendinger has been instrumental in planning the hospital’s development, growth and success. During his tenure, three major expansion/renovation projects were completed that shaped the current LRHS campus. This includes adding oncology services and a three-story patient tower to house intensive care, cardiac care and observation units. The clinic system also was expanded to improve access to care, and conference space was dedicated within the hospital to increase community education opportunities.
Schwendinger is a partner and leads the health care practice group at Armstrong Teasdale law firm, which has offices in St. Louis, Kansas City and Jefferson City.
He also served six years on the national board of directors of the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation and was selected by peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® for health care law.
Since 1985, MHA’s Excellence in Governance award has been given annually to hospital board members for their dedication to exceptional health care. Award recipients are chosen by MHA’s district council presidents.
