  • Rebecca “Lou” Maxwell, 82

  • Remembered as an ‘artist at heart’

  • Rebecca Louella Maxwell, of Gravois Mills, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Lake Regional Health System surrounded by her family at the age of 82. She was born April 6, 1931, in Bolivar, MO, the daughter of Willis McGee and Dicey Murray.
     Lou, as she liked to be called, was an artist at heart. Whether singing, sewing, gardening, drawing or painting, she enjoyed expressing herself through creative endeavors. In retirement she spent much of her time tending to her garden and landscaping.
     Lou’s relationship with Christ was the cornerstone of her life and, above all, her family was her heart and joy.
     Her life was forever changed in 1994, over a cup of coffee at McDonalds. There she met the love of her life, Henry. They were married on November 21, 1994, combining their two families. Their blended family included 12 children, 27 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren.
     Preceded in death by her former husband, Jens Christian Nielsen, Lou is survived by their six children: Brenda Wilson, Charlotte (Steve) Ramaekers, Patsy Jacobs, Rebecca (Joe) Ward, Terry (Jeanine) Nielsen and Stephen Nielsen.
     In addition, she is survived by her six additional children of Henry E. Maxwell and late wife and loving mother Emily Joyce Maxwell: Henry E. (Roberta) Maxwell, Jr., Danny (Babette) Maxwell, Carmen Pace, Tammy (Chuck) Menke (preceded by Dan Menke) and Leescha (Ethan) Bercume and preceded in death by Ralph Maxwell.
     Other survivors include grandchildren: Dawn, Kim, Lindsay, Cassie, Henry, Jennifer, Rex, Randy, Jessica, Tabitha, Damon, Heather, Matthew, Caleb, Cameron, Tonya, Cole, Mike, Crystal, Robert, Kyle, Addison, Tony, Derek, Justin, Cody and Andrew.
     Great-grandchildren: Wilson, Nakole, Bryce, Draven, Austin, Sandra, Christopher, Cameron, Conner, Collin, Tatyhana, Taurean, Mark, Annabelle, Ciara, Carter, Grant, Garret, James, Chloe, Michaela, Trey, Sheridan, Brenden, Barrett, Aliana, Damien, Ella and Grady.
    Great-great-grandchildren: Shaylyn, Sierra and Fausto.
     Her sisters Lucille Patton, Opal Robertson, Paulina Duvall, brother Clifford Oral McGee and Dan Menke precede her in death.
     Funeral services will be held at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel on Tuesday, June 11th at 11:00 am.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery in Laurie. Memorial contributions may be made to S.T.A.F.F. Animal Shelter in Laurie, MO.  Expressions of sympathy may be left online at www.kidwellgarber.com.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
