What’s going on
A new Blue Star Memorial Marker was dedicated Sunday, June 9 at the Gravois Firefighters Memorial on Route O at Elks Lane in Laurie.
What it is
The national Blue Star Memorial Marker program honors all men and women who have served, are serving or will serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. Standing 7 feet, 6 inches tall, the marker is placed on dedicated highways as a reminder of the service of those who help to keep us free.
Who was involved
Spearheaded by Mitzi Chase, Lake Bloomers Garden installed the marker with help from Gravois firefighters. At the dedication, the American Legion Post 624 Color Guard presented the colors and Tiffany and Brooklynn Bryant sang patriotic songs. Local and state dignitaries attended including State Rep. David Wood and Federated Garden Club of Missouri president Joyce Lewis. Post 624 Commander Jim Morton provided a military tribute. World War II veteran Sgt. Ed Dolstein laid a wreath at the memorial. Fire Chief Ed Hancock accepted the marker on behalf of the GFPD.
