Fundraising efforts are in the works to raise funds for a funeral service and burial of the Eldon teen that was swept away by rising waters during Friday night's storm.
The body of 17-year-old Donald Parker was found shortly before 10 a.m. on Saturday morning along a creek bed about a half mile from where he was last seen.
"It's such a tragedy that he's gone so soon, but we know that he is with Jesus and we will see him soon," Parker's sister-in-law, Joyce Davis, said. "We will miss him so much."
Davis went on to describe Parker as the type of person that would light up a room when he walked in and was so generous that he would willingly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Parker's family and friends want to honor him by laying him to rest properly, but need funds to do so.
A barbecue, raffle, garage sale and bake sale are scheduled for Tuesday, June 4 rain or shine in Eldon. Local businesses and residents have already donated food, raffle give-aways and garage sale items. Raffle items include jewelry, cleaning services and a motorized scooter.
The family is in need of $3,000 for the funeral service alone. The viewing is scheduled for Saturday, June 8 from 1p.m. until 3 p.m. The service will begin at 3 p.m. The location has yet to be determined. The family has decided that the service will be open for all family and friends to attend.
More fundraising efforts are a possibility. The Lake Sun will post updates as those become available.
