The much-anticipated Lake of the Ozarks International Boat Race activities have begun.

The race will be held June 6-9 near Bagnell Dam.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 7, Bagnell Dam Blvd. from Station Drive to Valley Road will be closed to vehicle traffic. The street will reopen at about 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9.

Bagnell Dam will be closed for vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday during boat racing and will reopen after racing as soon as possible.

The street party is scheduled from 6-11 p.m. on Saturday for the closed-off area of Bagnell Dam Blvd. from Station Drive to Valley Road.

On Sunday, the dam will close from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. for racing, and will reopen for normal traffic after 5 p.m.

Valley Road will be open for normal traffic flow except when the dam is closed.  No traffic will be allowed on Valley Road from Bagnell Dam to the Dam Bait Shop campground during race time.

Lake Ozark Police Department Chief Mark Maples said that during non-race time, the LOPD will work at maintaining traffic flow to the best of its ability. People should expect delays if traveling in and around the event area, he cautioned.

Open container

Maples said the open container ordinance will be enforced on city streets and sidewalks including the Bagnell Dam.

There will be certain areas were beer-type gardens will be set up and where alcohol will be allowed.

“Anything outside of those areas will be strictly enforced,” Maples said.

Beavers at the Lake near the dam is the host facility.

Between six and eight buses will shuttle people throughout the area. Parking will be available at one or more churches at the top of Bagnell Dam Blvd., at the Dam Bait Shop below Bagnell Dam, and may be available at the School of the Osage Heritage Building, depending on construction progress related to a $22 million renovation.

The Offshore Super Series (OSS), the sanctioning group for the race, will buoy off the perimeter of the actual racecourse, which runs from near Bagnell Dam to midway between Lotell Hollow Cove and Birdsong Hollow Cove. The racecourse is approximately 4.5 miles long.

The Race Pits will be on the docks at Beavers, the Racer Village will be located on the Bagnell Dam Strip, as well as the Vendor Village.
