Kalyn DeClue from Lake Ozark auditioned and was accepted and attended a six week summer intensive program with the Joffrey Ballet School in April. The intensive will be held in Los Angeles, California. Students will be taught by Master Instructors including Mia Michaels (Three Time Emmy Award Winner, Choreographer “So You Think You Can Dance”), Chehon Tschopp (“So You Think You Can Dance” Winner), Misha Gabriel (Lead Dancer & Actor “Step Up 4 Revolution”) and Marguerite Derricks (Choreographer “Bunheads”) to name a few. During the auditioning process, the program was also auditioning for the Year-Round Trainee program in New York. DeClue was presented with a letter of acceptance to the year round program with a scholarship. In October, DeClue will be traveling to New York to tour the facilities and take classes with the current trainees.
The program will include classes of ballet, pointe, partnering, modern, contemporary dance and nutrition, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The six week program will conclude with a red carpet performance choreographed by Mia Michaels at the Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University Northridge.
Upon DeClue’s return, she will be attending a three day Jazz-N-Tap dance convention presented by Dupree Dance Expo in Chicago. The weekend convention will include jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, ballet and contemporary classes with instructors from Los Angeles, Houston, New York and Phoenix. DeClue will be learning an “All Star” routine via DVD choreographed by the Dupree Dance staff in June. The “All Star” routine will be performed two times throughout the weekend. DeClue was given the All-Star Dancer of the Weekend at the Dupree Dance Expo summer intensive in Chicago, Illinois July 19-22, 2012. This is DeClue’s third “All Star Dancer” Award for this dance convention. DeClue is a dance student at Columbia Performing Arts Centre in Columbia Missouri.
