  • The Eldon Mustangs battled some tough opponents over the course of their 2013 season, not just talented teams, but also weather and youth.
Despite all of that, the team finished their regular season with an 8-10 record, and made a run through districts, playing for the district title.
That journey for the district championship began with their first district game against Owensville.
Eldon jumped to an early lead over their opponent, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Owensville would answer with three runs of their own in the second, but the Mustangs batted in one more for a 5-3 lead.
Owensville tied things up in the third, and took the lead in the fourth with a score of 6-5.
Eldon rallied back in the bottom of the fifth with two runs, retaking the lead, which they hold on to for the remainder of the game, winning 7-6.
Pat Souders led the team with two RBI, while Joe Limbach, Chris Hulsey and Cory Homan all tacked on an RBI.
Chris Hulsey pitched the win with three strikeouts, while Dylan Wood recorded the save with five strikeouts.
The Mustangs then faced off against Salem in the district quarterfinal, and after the first inning, Eldon had the game won, as they took a 2-1 lead and held on.
The team added two more runs in the third, and held firm over the next four innings to win, 4-1.
Joe Limbach pitched the win with four strikeouts, throwing all seven innings.
Skylar Yakich batted in two runs, and Cory Homan finished the day with a RBI.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs couldn't continue the streak, as they fell in a 10-0 shutout to Sullivan, returning home with a second-place plaque and a record of 10-11.
