  • A severe thunderstorm with damaging winds struck the City of Lake Ozark shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. Both east and westbound lanes of Highway 54 were closed for several hours as downed power lines crossed the roadway. Traffic was backed up in several different directions at the Highway 242 interchange. Additional officers had to be called in for traffic assistance as power was lost on the south end of town which effected the electric signals. The city received assistance from Lake Ozark Fire Protection District and Missouri State Highway Patrol with traffic directions and responses to emergency calls for services. Twin Oaks Road was hit with wind damage and downed trees. Trees crossed the road on several streets and downed trees were reported on homes. Several bill board type signs were blown over in the area of the Bagnell Dam Blvd and the Osage Beach Parkway. The Police Department lost power for some time as well as the south side of the city. Additional damage was located at the new construction site at Eagles Landing as constructions trailers were blown over. Highway 242 was littered with construction debris from the site. A gas leak at Marine Max was reported due to storm damage. LOFPD responded and shut the gas lines off. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources was contacted about possible gasoline making it into the lake. By approximately 10 p.m. the storm had passed and Lake Ozark Public Works Crews started the clean up process. This will continue until all the storm damage is addressed. If any residents of the city has storm debris on their roadways LOPD encourages them to call city hall and make a report so they can add it to the list for clean up. "I would like to think the MSHP and LOFPD for a ton of help during the peak of the storm activities last night," Lake Ozark Police Chief Mark Maples said.
