Reading the newspapers and watching many TV news programs leaves me wondering who really is in charge of our governmental entities.
Our politicians at all levels of Government (County, City, State and Federal) seem to be well coated in Teflon; nothing sticks to them and unfortunately in many instances, we the people, forgive and so quickly forget.
We need to demand, honesty and integrity from our elected officials. In so many instances now, we don’t seem to be able to get politicians that abide by those virtues, though they may try to convince us that they are the most principled, honest and virtuous. (Read Bill Bennett’s collection entitled “The Book of Virtues”)
It can’t be stated too often that “we the people” are “the Boss.”
The Constitution is our guiding principle and our ability to cast our votes for the people we elect into the various offices is our means to be sure they recognize that they serve at our pleasure.
So many of today’s politicians seem to forget in between election cycles that they can and will be called to task for the jobs they have been doing.
It is the responsibility of “we the people” to hold them accountable; to ensure that they abide by the Rule of Law and our Constitution.
We cannot allow the bureaucracy of any governmental agency to control our freedoms granted by the Constitution and dictate how we live our lives. I often think of a quote that is attributed to Edward R. Murrow, “A nation of Sheep will beget a Government of Wolves”. Is that what we are — a nation of sheep?
