  • This week, yet another Camdenton senior has signed with a university. This time, it is four-time state golfer Mackenzie Griffin.
On Monday, Griffin signed her letter of intent to attend Fontbonne University, a Division III school located in St. Louis.
"I am pleased to announce that Mackenzie Griffin has decided to attend Fontbonne University and play for our women's golf program," Fontbonne women's golf coach Steve Schafer said. "She is such a fantastic person who will fit in great with our team. She has a lot of talent, but most importantly, she is a hard worker and a proven winner. She has a chance to be a very special player at our level. I couldn't be more excited to have Mackenzie in the program."
Griffin has been golfing for ten years, and it has paid off, as Griffin will start at the number two spot on the golf team next year. Ironically, the mascot for Fontbonne is the Griffin.
"I feel like I have finally gotten to where everyone wanted me to be, and where I wanted to be," Griffin said.
An avid artist, Griffin plans to major in art, specializing in painting and collage.
Reminiscing about her stellar golfing career, one moment stood out for her: when the Lady Lakers won the MSU Relays, finishing first out of over 15 teams, after having already beaten a number of the teams in the Ozark Conference just prior to the meet.
"They're getting a great player," Coach Jane Eidson said. "I've coached her all four years of her high school career, and she went to state each time, which not many girls do. She's made her mark. She was the girl that everyone liked to play with. She was competitive, but she always fun to play against."
Coach Eidson thinks that Fontbonne will be a great fit for Griffin.
"It's a smaller college, which will be good for her," Eidson said. "She'll get to play right off, and she needs to get out there and play. It's a perfect fit for her."
