The Osage Indians tennis team reversed the 2012 decision in the district title match Wednesday, winning 5-4 against Marshall, capturing the district championship.
En route to the title match, the Indians defeated Sacred Heart Tuesday by a score of 6-1. Osage, at 7-4, was seeded second in the Class 1, District 8 team tournament, behind Marshall (9-5) and ahead of teams from Sacred Heart, Father Tolton Catholic and Boonville.
The Indians will move into sectional play as a team next week. But before the team advances, individuals will have a chance to shine in the singles and doubles district tournament on Saturday. Junior Thomas Uhl will work to defend his district championship. Last year, he captured the title after dispatching a player from Helias Catholic. Uhl made it all the way to the state tournament in 2012 and is looking to match that feat again this year.
In 2012, sophomore Ryan Curran took home the championship in doubles with Austin Garton. Now a junior, Curran will play to retain that title in 2013 with freshman Jordan Wilson.
