I believe in an open society. To me, this means open borders, open markets, open-ended education and above all, open minds.
I believe in individual responsibility in every aspect of our society/culture. Responsibility for one's own education, for one's own financial security, and, above all, the responsibility for critical thinking.
I believe in the sanctity of life and that life begins at conception (which is a scientifically proven fact, not a politically motivated concept that sometime during gestation period, life mysteriously begins).
I believe in parental responsibility for their children and their children's actions. To me, this means that, if you father or give birth to a child, you are responsible for the child's future well-being or failure. This must be the primary responsibility of both parents.
I believe that the first and most effective teachers are the parents, for better or worse. I realize that you cannot require would-be parents to learn how to accept this responsibility since many children are conceived out of wedlock, on the spur of the moment, and with no regard for the consequences.
I also realize that to achieve an open society and to educate individuals and parents to accept the responsibility for their actions would require a complete reversal in the way we look at education and culture in our nation and the world. This is a goal worthy to be achieved. Our legislators, educators and media should address this problem immediately.
