  • What it is
With funding support from tax increment financing (TIF) and a community improvement district (CID), Supermarket Developers, Inc., a subsidiary of Associated Wholesale Grocers, is constructing a new retail center at the intersection of Routes 5 and F in Sunrise Beach. Woods Supermarket is the anchor store of Sunrise Beach Market Center. A fueling station and 13,000 square foot retail strip center are also planned at the development. An outlot within the 13 acre TIF area is also part of the site plan, but is less firm than the other parts of the plan.
    What's new
Woods Supermarket is nearing completion as Supermarket Developers, Inc. ramps up work at the construction site to get the anchor store complete. The targeted opening date for Woods is May 21, according to CEO Craig Easter, but that is contingent on mother nature. With the rainy spring season that the area has seen so far, weather is a factor in the construction time table. But Easter said construction is pretty much on schedule right now. The Memorial holiday weekend will begin May 24.
    What's next
While much of the outdoor construction has been done - including a massive excavation effort - crews were working on the parking lot May 8. Inside the 54,540 square supermarket, department directors have begun setting out groceries. Sometime next week, they will likely start on perishables, Easter said. An adjacent 3,000 square fueling station that will have five dispensers - 10 pump handles - should be done in the next week to 10 days.
