  • Firefighters were able to stop an early morning blaze Wednesday from destroying a cabin in the Sunrise Beach area.
The call for the incident on Barberton Drive - off of Beachwood Drive and Indian Hill Rd. - came in before 4:30 a.m. May 8.
According to Sunrise Beach Fire Chief Dennis Reilly, firefighters encountered a significant fire when they arrived on scene at the small cabin with an attached garage. The residence was unoccupied.
Personnel from Sunrise Beach, Gravois and Mid County fire protection districts got lines on the fire and were able to get it under control pretty quickly, Reilly said.
Significant damage was done to the garage. As the flames started to extend into the interior of the cabin, firefighters were able to cut the blaze off, Reilly said, preventing further loss.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental at this time.
