the students were treated for minor injuries and released from lake regional hospital the day of the accident, according to superintendent michael diekmann. the missouri state highway patrol crash report listed five students, but six were actually transported and treated, he said.
seven students and two adults were on board at the time of the accident around 7 a.m. friday morning. leonard lamb, 56, was driving the bus and a substitute driver was also on board for a familiarization run. they did not receive any reported injuries.
the single vehicle accident occurred when the bus headed south on route ff south of sagrada rd. went off the right side of the roadway and went over on its side, striking a fence and tree before coming to a stop, according to the highway patrol crash report. no other information is available from the highway patrol.
after any school bus accident, a mandatory drug test of the driver is done immediately and the driver must take leave from the job until the test results are in.
no problems with the test are expected, diekmann said. once the results are back, the district will work with lamb on when he feels comfortable returning to work, he said.
school administrators and bus drivers met monday to review the accident and watched video of the incident taken by bus cameras. the school believes that the accident was caused by a slick spot on the road, he said, as previously reported by lamb.
a freak bout with some winter-like precipitation occurred friday.
no major policy or procedure changes are planned, diekmann said.
