The lake level was 658.6, with full generation scheduled this past week the lake should hold there through the weekend. Surface temperature at Bagnell Dam was 52 degrees; tributary temperatures are 53 to 57 degrees. Truman Lake is still nine feet over pool and releasing at maximum flow. Much of the lake is mud stained; anglers should be on the lookout for floating debris.
BLACK BASS – It took 19.36 pounds to win the Wednesday Night (4/24) Tourney, Big Bass was 6.34 pounds. Lower Osage: Try jigs on a sunny day, overcast days try Smithwick’s Rogue jerkbait or MoRigs deep but parallel to the shoreline. Glaize Arm: Very good, try spinnerbaits, Bullseye jigs, and MoRigs or YUMbrella rigs near channel swings. Mid-Lake: Very good, try spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and multi-rigs along channel swings. Niangua Arm: Very good, try purple-and-chartreuse jerkbaits like the Rogue or Megabass on cove points. Little Niangua River: No reported fish. Gravois Arm: Very good, try jigs tipped with soft plastic critters or try multi-rigs. Upper Osage: Very good, try jerkbaits on rocky points. Osage 60 MM: Very good, try crayfish colored Storm Wiggle Warts, jigs or spinnerbaits on main and secondary points.
CATFISH – Bagnell Dam Tailwater: Excellent for big blues on cut bait with fish up to 60-pounds. Lower Osage: Poor to fair on rod and reel baited with cut bait. Glaize Arm: Poor to fair, try in the coves with nightcrawlers or chicken livers. Mid-Lake: Good around Tan-Tara Island on cut bait. Niangua Arm: Poor, try nightcrawlers, cut bait, and chicken livers. Little Niangua River: Good when the river is murky. Gravois Arm: Fair on rod and reel baited with dead minnows or cut shad. Upper Osage: Good, try fresh cut bait in front of docks. Osage 60 MM: Fair, try juglines baited with gold fish. Truman Tailwater: Good on cut bait for blue catfish.
CRAPPIE – It took 1 pound, 2 ounces to win Big Fish in the Heit’s Point Tournament. Bagnell Dam Tailwater: Poor because of the high flow. Lower Osage: Excellent, try minnows and blue ice colored jigs 3- to 5- feet deep around big boat docks. Glaize Arm: Excellent, try jigs or minnows fished behind boat docks. Mid-Lake: Excellent, try jigs around shallow brush. Niangua Arm: Excellent, try jigs over brush 3- to 5-feet deep. Little Niangua River: Very good on chartreuse and black jigs in clearer water. Gravois Arm: Excellent, try minnows or blue-and-white jigs around docks. Upper Osage: Excellent, try jigs tipped with plastic and Berkley Crappie Nibbles 3- to 5-feet deep. Osage 60 MM: Very good, the fish are very shallow, try Buck Creek’s Lil Swimmer in blue ice color or minows.
PADDLEFISH – The season ended April 30.
WALLEYE – Bagnell Dam Tailwater: No reported fish. Little Niangua River: Occasional fish caught by anglers fishing for other species. Truman Tailwater: Good on jigs or minnows.
WHITE AND HYBRID BASS – Bagnell Dam Tailwater: Poor because of the high flow rate. Lower Osage: No reported fish. Glaize Arm: Poor, try white jigs in coves and on points with Dixie Jet Spoons. Mid-Lake: Poor to fair on spoons in open water. Niangua Arm: Try sqaurebill crankbaits and spoons like the Dixie Jet or Bass Pro Shops XPS Tungsten Jigging Spoon on points. Little Niangua River: Good for hybrids during mild flow; whites good on Rooster Tails. Gravois Arm: Fair, try open water with vertically jigged spoons. Osage 60 MM: Crappie anglers are catching a few small fish.
BLUEGILL – Fair to good, try worm pieces, or Berkley Berkley’s Gulp Crickets.
NOTE: The Lower Osage is from the dam to the 22-mile mark; Mid-Lake is between the 22 and 38-mile marks; the Upper Osage is between the 38 and 55-mile marks; the Osage 60 MM is between the 55-mile mark and the 89-mile mark; and the 89 MM is between the 89 MM and the Rt. 65 Bridge.
