  • Highway Patrol reporting minor injuries for 5 students in morning bus accident

  • The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reporting minor injuries for five Climax Springs R-IV students who were on a school bus that was involved in an accident Friday morning.
    According to the Highway Patrol crash report, Charles Emmons, 16, Kaitlyn Ethington, 9, Troy Ethington, 7, Maycee Phillips, 8, and Trinity Phillips, 9, were transported to Lake Regional Hospital for minor injuries following the single vehicle accident at 6:58 a.m. May 3 on Route FF south of Sagrada Rd. No other students were listed with injuries, and no injuries were reported for bus driver Leonard Lamb, 56, of Edwards.
    The crash report states that the southbound bus went off the right side of Route FF south of Sagrada Rd. and overturned striking a fence and a tree before coming to a rest.
    Lamb and Maycee Phillips were reported as wearing safety devices. The other students were reported as not wearing safety devices.
    No further information from the Highway Patrol investigation is available at this time.
    According to an initial report from Superintendent Michael Diekmann, the driver said the bus hit black ice coming down the hill causing it to swerve off the roadway. Seven students were on the school bus at the time of the accident, Diekmann said.
