  • Richard J. “Dick” Meyer, age 89, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at his home.  He was born November 14, 1923, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Edward J. and Rose M. Reiss Meyer.
     On June 8, 2006, in El Paso, Texas, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Meyer, who survives the home.
     Dick was a retired Lt Col for the United States Air Force (SAC).  He served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.
     He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie and the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach.
     Dick enjoyed studying war history and playing golf.
     In addition to his wife, Rosemary, he is survived by his sons, David Meyer and family of Maine, Donald Meyer and family of Ohio, and Richard Meyer and family, Lawrence Meyer and family and Greg Meyer and family all of Missouri; daughters, Linda Alden and family of Texas and Michelle Eckard and family of Missouri; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his sister, Rosemary Hearn and family of Missouri and many other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Meyer.
     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4th, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie with Father Patrick Dolan celebrating.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church.  Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at a later date in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mother’s Shrine.  Expressions of sympathy may be left online at www.kidwellgarber.com.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
