  • A plan to do away with some building codes is back on the agenda for the Mid County Fire District.
A special meeting will be held tonight, April 30 at 5 p.m. at Mid County's headquarters to discuss a list of codes at least some members of the board are in favor of abolishing.
Building codes have been the source of ongoing controversy among board members who are split on the district's enforcement of codes intended for public safety.
As recently as Nov. 2012, a proposal to do away with as many as 15 of the district's code was withdrawn by Mike High, the board member who had originally presented it.
High's proposal ran into trouble after more than 15 residents of the fire protection district raised opposition to any move to do away with any building codes.
High and board member Rod Sederwall were the two fire district officials who proposed the changes. High and Sederwall challenged the district's right to adopt building codes.
According to the agenda, the building code discussion is the only item to be addressed during the meeting.
