  • The lake area sports teams are surely missing the sun. Throughout the course of the 2013 spring season, rain or snow has plagued the teams, and in this weekend’s soccer tournament, the rain never let up. That sure didn't stop the teams from competing in an aquatic battle for soccer supremacy. Camdenton The Lady Lakers started off tournament play on Friday night under the lights of their grass field in a match against Crocker. Camdenton wasted no time in defeating their opponent in an 11-1 contest. The team then advanced to play a tough and talented Hillsboro team on Saturday afternoon. Due to the weather conditions, the teams were forced to play on the turf field, and even though Coach Hunter and the team prefer their grassy field, they still emerged the victors in a 5-2 contest. Just hours later, the team returned to the turf for the championship match against Rogers Heritage Lady War Eagles. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Lakers were out-gunned by their opponents, and fell in a 2-1 loss, finishing second in the purple pool of the Laker Invitational. Osage The seventh ranked Lady Indians knew they had some tough match-ups, but their toughest opponent in the tournament was by far the cold rain. In their first game in the maroon pool, the Lady Indians faced off with Jacksonville High of Illinois under the lights of Athletic Field on Friday night in the wet and cold. The weather proved to be troublesome for both teams, but Jacksonville won the match with a final score of 1-0. For the next day’s match, the Lady Indians woke up early for an 8:30 a.m. start against the Fatima Lady Comets, and in a double overtime match, Osage emerged victorious in a wet 1-0 win to advance to the consolation match. With the rain still falling at 2:30 p.m., the Lady Indians returned to the turf for a consolation match against Rogers Heritage’s JV squad, who they soundly defeated with a score of 4-0 with a 13-3 record on the season.
