Lake area outdoor enthusiasts will be working together to find and map out historic spots and other areas of interest for a trail with signs designating each spot. Nancy Masterson, Park Superintendent at Ha Ha Tonka has suggested that perhaps the Lake Paddle Club and the Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance work on the project and others are welcome to help.
This has been done at the Lake of the Ozarks State Park and a nice brochure has been developed featuring that trail.
This trail would probably start at Ha Ha Tonka at the newly finished steps and kayak launch and continue up the Niangua River maybe even to Tunnel Dam Lake - at least to Casa de Loco. It would be called The Niangua River Trail or a similar name.
The first planning meeting will be Monday, April 29, at 10 a.m. and last until at least 2 p.m. It will be at the Ha Ha Tonka State Park Visitors Center. Bring a sack lunch. Come and bring your ideas, maps of the area if you have any and also information about the history of that part of the river.
