I just finished reading The Dreams in the Witch House by H.P Lovecraft. I won’t get into the gory details but it basically about a man named Walter Gilman, mathematics major at Miskatonic University who take board in building called Witch House. During the Salam Witch Trials in 1692 a supposed witch hid out there during which she managed to come up with all these complex mathematical formulas. (I presume that’s what caught Walter’s attention, him being a math major.) Anyway he finds out that the formulas have something to do with magick. This sort of reminds me one of Arthur C Clarke’s three rules, “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” Anyway it’s an interesting book and I do suggest it as a good read.
