Students involved in the L.E.A.P. program at Eldon, are gearing up for their annual spring family fun night. Instead of a typical family night, L.E.A.P. staff decided to host a creative event that gets entire families together.
"As a community learning center part of our job is to bring the community into our schools and team up for both student and adult education. This year we have tried to put an emphasis on living a healthy lifestyle," Stacy Lawless, L.E.A.P. Director, said.
L.E.A.P. is hosting the 'Rock-N-Glow 5K L.E.A.P. families can participate for free, while community members must pay a small fee. Proceeds will first pay for the event's supplies then will go toward the program's robotics fund.
So far 45 L.E.A.P. families have committed to being a part of the event.
"I think we will have a great turnout as we are now targeting Eldon R-1 staff with info to encourage them to participate in our wellness program," Lawless said. "This is the first annual walk/run we hope, like other events such as our Community Fair, which will grow from year to year. Last year was extremely successful and this year we are adding both EAC football and ELOSA soccer sign ups as well as the Masons are sponsoring a MoCHIP event for all children."
