  • Three people are in custody for using a 12-day-old baby to hide stolen goods.
On April 7, 2013 at approximately 7:45 p.m, Osage Beach officers were called to the Walmart Super Center in response to shoplifting in progress involving two young adult females and a young adult male. The subjects were using a 12-day-old baby, who was in a car seat, under which to hide some of the stolen property.
Tara R. Lewis, 19, and Dustin A. Metcalf, 17, of Laurie, and Genevieve Hill-Deasure, 17, from Camdenton were arrested at the scene. They were all charged with stealing by shoplifting under $500 and the proper authorities contacted reference Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Osage Beach Police warn that what most people use to carry diapers, milk, baby food, wipes, etc., shoplifters use as a “booster bag,” many times not having the necessities for the child in the bag. In the above case, the baby itself and the child safety seat were used to conceal stolen property. This can be particularly dangerous for the child, especially if it is placed back in the car base and is lying on and surrounded by stolen property.
